About the 'Flying Farmer'

J M Midgley Farm Services was set up in 1997 by Michael Midgley to offer a range of on-farm services using his experience of more than 25 years running the family’s mixed farm in Yorkshire.

Now based in Lincolnshire, he is able to turn his hand to most farm tasks and operate the full range of farm machinery, but specialises in cattle. He set up and ran both a dairy unit and a suckler herd and also kept a flock of sheep on the home farm before the business was split up in 1994 and is one of that increasingly rare breed, a true stockman!

The current business began with a mobile cattle handling system, The Flying Crush, which is still the main focus using new equipment manufactured to his design, including a new, award-winning mobile feeder/pen.  Over the years he has expanded his operation to include a range of other services for agricultural, forestry, drainage and allied businesses.

Michael has also gained experience in supervising casual labour, including migrant workers, for whom he has considerable respect.

AREA OF OPERATION: Mostly Lincolnshire, the East Midlands, North Norfolk and Yorkshire but his expertise with cattle means he has been called on to work as far afield as the Scottish Borders and Durham in the north and Surrey in the south.
